The organisation
Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) is the national governing body for the Irish sport horse sector. HSI is responsible for the development and promotion of the Irish sport horse industry, covering high performance sport, breeding and production, education and coaching, and sport and recreation.
The role
The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Chairperson of HSI and will be responsible for leading and managing the organisation. The CEO will lead and deliver the strategic and operational plans and motivate teams to achieve the organisation’s objectives. The CEO must demonstrate exemplary internal and external leadership, act as an advocate and ambassador for the organisation and sector and have strong strategic capability with a proven ability to work in a complex stakeholder environment.

The person
The ideal candidate will have a strong passion, knowledge, interest and feeling for the Irish and international sport horse sector and proven track record in leading teams through a period of growth and change. The candidate will also provide evidence of strong commercial acumen, knowledge of financial systems, controls and accounts, and experience with corporate governance and risk management processes. The successful candidate will show how they would address the following key strategic objectives of HSI:

High Performance
•Developing and managing a high-performance programme to deliver medals and to ensure that Ireland regularly achieves podium placings at the world’s most prestigious competitions.
Breeding and Production
•Promoting the growth and quality of Irish horse breeding using latest science and research so that Ireland will be recognised as a top nation in breeding and production of Sport Horses.
Education and Training
•Developing a centre of excellence for equestrian sport in Ireland to accommodate an education academy to support all aspects of equestrian activity;
•Delivering a world class equestrian education programme offering a comprehensive set of high-quality training and education courses to suit all levels.
Leisure and Recreation
•Delivering vibrant growth in participation across the various equestrian disciplines through quality experiences, environments and supports.
Essential Requirements
•Third level degree or equivalent in business, equine studies, agriculture or other relevant discipline;
•7+ years senior management experience in a challenging environment;
•Ability to develop and manage a high-performance team and programme and regularly deliver results;
•An understanding and experience of the Irish horse breeding industry and equestrian sector;
•Ability to initiate and oversee the delivery of high-quality training to a wide range of stakeholders;
•Excellent written and oral communication skills, with proven negotiation skills and presenting research and findings;
•Evidence of political astuteness, with a high level of integrity and an open style, and an ability to build trust and effective working relationships with all stakeholders;
•Previous experience managing budgets and major capital investment projects;
•Previous experience of effectively managing and motivating a team;
•Demonstrated strong project management skills & methodologies.
Desirable Attributes
•Previous experience of reporting to a Board or an Executive Leadership Team;
•Evidence of ability to lead by personal example.in terms of commitment and work ethic, prepared to work the necessary hours and at weekends;
•A driver of excellence with impeccable standards of personal integrity
•An analytical, numerate and disciplined thinker who has the ability to think complex issues through and develop effective solutions in a timely manner;
